Fulfilling the wish of Akong Rinpoche to have the very best of Dharma teaching at Samye Ling, Drupon Rinpoche again returned to Kagyu Samye Ling this year to give the generosity of Dharma.
Each morning he is providing plenty of food for thought on the subject of calm abiding/shinay meditation.
This morning Drupon Rinpoche explained his approach to the teaching of Dharma. He said there are now many who teach what we are to do – how to set the mind. Therefore it is more useful to explore where the difficulties may be, where do we struggle?
He pointed out that once we have formulated a sense of the meditation “state”, it becomes very difficult for us to see the flaws in that formulation, and hence, we absolutely need a qualified teacher to get us beyond our own constructed states.
In relation to worldly activities he pointed out that the purpose of meditation isn’t to get better at them. From the Dharma point of view these activities are considered highly problematic for a number of reasons. The manner of overcoming worldliness is 3-fold: relinquishment, transformation, and the practice where such activities can be taken onto the path.
